Alphabets of Stones

Book designed and hand-printed by George Kirkpatrick, using inkjet on bockingford paper. It is a collection on five complete alphabets found naturally occurring on pebbles and stones from British beaches which have been collected over several years by George and his wife Gillian Tait. They have been photographed as found without any alterations. The binding replicates the idea of a collection of polished pebbles lying on a beach, the pebbles being in bas-relief and covered in scraps of multi-coloured leathers. The poem Ithaka, bound for Margaret Albert of New York. The book has been designed, illustrated and printed by George Kirkpatrick, as well as bound. The case represents a Greek temple with columns in white alum tawed pigskin, the ship on the cover being meant to sail into the box.
